Shaoxing: A green and colorful place

Keyan Scenic Area
Shaoxing stone, water and historic culture mix together and create a wonderful combination that surprises and delights visitors to Keyan. It is a large natural area, with many features reflecting Chinese culture, history and religions. Here also, Lu Xun’s characters come alive and can be experienced first-hand by visitors.
The Keyan Scenic Area was one of the first national “AAAA level Tourist Spots.” It is famous for its ancient Yue culture, integrating the features of the Shaoxing water bodies, relics of an ancient quarry, and forestry ecology. It was first built in the Han Dynasty, and has a history of over 1,800 years. In Qing Dynasty, the well-known “eight scenic spots of Keyan” came into being, and has been places of great interest since then. With more recent development and construction, Keyan now is composed of the natural sites of Jianhu Lake and peculiar rock formations, and cultural sites such as Luzhen ancient town based on the stories of Lu Xun.
East Lake
Facing the majestic rocks in East Lake, you will feel how infinitely small you are. Taking a Wupeng boat, you can see the giant rocks from the water. It will take you back to thousands of years ago.
East Lake is one of the Three Famous Lakes in Zhejiang, besides West Lake in Hangzhou and Nanhu in Jiaxing. Located at the eastern suburbs of Shaoxing and three kilometers from downtown Shaoxing, East Lake is an elegant scenic spot comprising lakes, mountains and stone cliff structures. What’s truly unique about East Lake is the three fascinating caves; Xiantao (fairy peach) Cave; Langba (horn) Cave; and Taogong Cave. Taking a traditional Wupeng boat tour on East Lake is the best way to take in its magnificent scenery and to experience its spectacular caves.
Jinghu National Urban Wetland Park
Jinghu is a scenic area where you can spend a whole day in contact with pure nature. Nature lovers can watch a number of water-bird species as they go about their daily lives in this natural wonderland. You can also experience how residents of an ancient Hemudu village took water from the lake through interesting and ingenious water wheels. It’s a hands-on activity!
It is the green heart of Shaoxing, and Jinghu Urban Wetland Park is designated as one of the nine National Urban Wetland Park in China. Covering an area of 16 square kilometers, Jinghu National Urban Wetland Park has dense water networks, home to many species of plants and animals.
Wu Xie (Five Waterfalls)
Wuxie is one of the most magnificent waterfall areas in Zhejiang. Located in Zhuji (a county-level city in Shaoxing), Wuxie is about a one-hour drive from Shaoxing.
